Ruata: Boxing is in my blood

Rabi boxer Ru Beresta Ruata knows he faces a baptism of fire when he takes on Paula Ratumaikoro in his debut professional bout during the 2023 FMF Boxing Series at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva on Saturday.

The two will slug it out in a 79kg light heavyweight bout in the lead-up to the much anticipated Jese Ravudi versus Winston Hill main fight on the night.

Ruata said while he respected his opponent, he was confident his boxing prowess would help dominate the fight.

Ruata said he was inspired by his late grandfather who was a former heavyweight boxer.

“Boxing is in my blood,” he said.

“It will be my first professional boxing match, thanks to FMF Tuwai Boxing Promotions for making this possible,” said Ruata.

“Boxing is not new to me, I have boxing experience since my amateur days. I’ll be aiming to impress the boxing fans right from the get-go. I promise to give my fans a fight to remember.”

Ruata acknowledged his team and sponsors — Team Aqua Assassin, Fiji Navy, Navy Boxing — and his family especially to his wife and seven-month-old daughter.
